The Chainsmokers are masters of momentum. The pair have not seemed to slow down once in 2016. Their slew of releases, rewards and accolades has been beyond impressive. This week they continue their dominance of headlines with a release of a new single “Setting Fire” alongside their EP “Collage”.
This track drops just as their last pop charged mega hit “Closer” just certifiably became the biggest hit of the year. The collaboration with vocalist, Halsey, overtook Drake's “One Dance” previous record (10 weeks) with 11 weeks as number 1 on the Billboard charts. “Setting Fire” seems to follow the same formula that has continually paid off for The Chainsmokers: catchy beat, pop oriented collaborators and vocal heavy orientation. The guys have teamed up with the sibling made indie duo XYLO.
XYLO have a solid foothold in the electropop genre. They have a unique vibe which is seductive, dramatic but also technically sound. Listening to their original productions, you get a vibe very similar to that of Halsey. It is clear why The Chainsmokers have picked them to be their latest collaborators.
Take a listen to the track below. Let us know your thoughts in the comments too. Are The Chainsmokers smoking the competition or just rehashing the same formula over and over?
