As Electronic Music continues to gain in popularity it was announced on Monday January 28, 2013 at the Midem Conference that a dance music lobby group will do all they can to “ensure electronic music gets the recognition and status it deserves.” Ben Turner is the mastermind behind the International Music Summit and has gained the support with other influential people such as Matthew Adell (CEO of Beatport), Amy Thomson (Swedish House Mafia Manager), James Barton (Live Nation) and Patrick Moxey from Ultra Records/Sony Music. You can find everyone involved in the AFEM here.
Ben Turner said “These are extraordinary times for electronic music. We have seen it break through into the mainstream in the US and become the backbone of modern pop music. Yet despite such success, it feels like there is an even bigger need for an Association for Electronic Music to exist and speak with one voice. “Now that our time is here, it is essential we take the opportunity and develop the long-term infrastructure that it needs to flourish. The initial team we have assembled was easy to identity: people who really care about where this genre goes, and how it gets there. It is a future alliance for future music.”
This is an exciting time for the Electronic Music Industry and we can only hope the Association for Electronic Music helps strengthen it.
