EDC Vegas in 2014 is looking hazy right now, as Nevada's State Legislature discusses a tax reform for the Live Entertainment Tax (LET), a 10% tax on the state's live, ticketed forms of entertainment. The festival was exempt from the tax in the past, but if LET were applied for the event, that would mean a nearly $9.5 million raised in taxes for the state, given the $300 ticket price and nearly 320,000 purchased tickets.
Insomniac Events founder and CEO Pasquelle Rotella stated the following:
“Insomniac loves doing business in Las Vegas, and right now our primary focus is producing the best show for the fans who will attend Electric Daisy Carnival on June 21, 22 and 23. While we would love to bring another festival to Nevada, we are tabling any further discussions until the state Legislature settles the Live Entertainment Tax issue.”
Although talks of festival's expansion with a second week is already anticipated, it isn't clear if EDC Vegas will even happen at all next year.
