Yesterday Australian duo Cosmo’s Midnight released their much-awaited EP entitled Surge under Yes Please Records. I’ve been a fan of the twin producers since my sophomore year in college, and despite the EP being the twin producers’ first, it’s set to make serious waves.
One of my favourite songs on the EP is Phantasm, a vision translated into music. I first heard the track in 2012 during a killer 5-hour break in college, having accidentally found it during my daily ritual of music shifting. However the song didn’t fully sink in until a late night connecting flight to Phoenix. I remember sitting in a dark cabin, my dad sound asleep to my left. I had my player set to shuffle, and as if on cue it played Phantasm as I moved the window up. The transient synths and melodies accompanied by Nicole Millar’s sensual voice served as the perfect backdrop as I stared across the infinite night sky – It was absolutely breath-taking.
Surge is an intoxicating pleasure that leaves you in a dream-like state even after you’ve removed your Headphones. I’m quite sad that the EP only contains four songs, I feel like I haven't gotten enough of my Midnight fix. All in all I’m very happy with Surge, and I’m looking forward to CM’s next EP!
You can download Surge through their page on Bandcamp. To get updates on Cosmo’s Midnight you can find them on Facebook , Twitter and Soundcloud .
