Free n Losh is a name you may not have heard yet, but should keep in mind if musical creative genius is something that delights your senses.
The young Canadian duo, on YYZ Records, is bringing a completely unique sound to the table, proving that selling out is not the only way to build a following in the edm scene these days. Their music does not rely on over-the-top, obnoxious drops or painfully repetitive sequences, as is popular among many acts trying to make it today. When true talent is present, such frills are deemed unnecessary. Over the past year, these two have produced 30 tracks, some of which (Things You Don't Understand and Babe I'm Gonna Leave You) have achieved serious online presence. Listeners are catching on to the groovy, imaginative style of Free n Losh, and holding on once they realize that they have discovered one of the most idiosyncratic groups to recently emerge. It feels as though these guys have been producing songs for years judging by the quality of their music and it's effortless ability to transport listeners exactly where they want them: a land of pure imagination.
The group's most recent EP, A World Within, just dropped last week and is already manifesting itself as possibly their most inspired work yet. The album explores abstract schools of thought and sound. It is the belief of Free n Losh that us humans should not focus so much on “what's out there” but rather turn our attention and energy inward. “Instead of helping everyone build spaceships, this EP is about boarding a submarine that goes to the bottom of the sea.” The tracks are fluid from one to the next, introducing fresh influences and dabbling in different genres throughout. Soulful jazz sounds of saxophone and piano meet nouveau galactic-trap beats and the result is simply breathtaking. The album blurs the defining line between fantasy and reality as the listener is taken on an introspective journey which mirrors the influences of the world around. Each new sound has a purpose; no single aspect of this album was haphazardly conceived. Free n Losh aimed to evoke specific emotions and fuel particular areas of thought through this music, and their goal has been achieved.
