Mixcloud has recently rebuilt and re-released its Android app with a number of new features. The radio and podcast streaming service have focused on a new user interface, which tailors to a particular users interest by allowing users to build their own radio stations. This is done through allowing users to pick from their favorite shows and DJ sets and the implementation of a new “Discover” tab that Mixcloud describes as a “Netflix-like” page that provides users with radio stations they may enjoy.
In an attempt to differentiate themselves from their biggest competitor Soundcloud, Mixcloud is appealing mainly to EDM fans and producers. Mixcloud’s playlists are stocked with various cuts and releases including hit EDM artists, blogs and aspiring DJs. Users are also allowed to create “shows” consisting of eight or more tracks and uploading them with a supplied track list which ensures artists receive royalties for any copy written material.
Shows created by users are also jumbled together along with major artists and sorted through popularity creating a fulfilling and sometimes unpredictableradio experience. Subgenres are also sorted in order to tailor to any users particular taste.
Mixcloud has also released an update for all iOS devices along with the new Android app. Both are available for download today on the Google Play store and the Apple App Store. Go check them out and let us know what you guys think.
