Interview with MitiS [EDM Sauce Exclusive]

MitiS, also known by his legal name Joe Torre, is one of the rising stars in Electronic Dance Music. Since 2011, MitiS has taken his talent as a Classical pianist to bring some of the most beautiful works of EDM such as his track “Blu” with MaHi. His ability to compose works of Electro to Dubstep has been captivating since the beginning. However, it is interesting to think that such a shift in genres would occur as an artist. MitiS told us that this experience happened very naturally and he does write most of his music on his piano first.

One of the first things you will notice about MitiS is his engagement with his fans. Odds are, if you send him a tweet you will get a response within a few minutes either thanking you or just having a friendly chat.

“Fans don't deserved to be shrugged off and taken for granted,” he said, “[they] have brought me so much motivation, will, and inspiration.” He also noted that he receives messages on how his music effects his audience and fans, “I always get these amazing messages of how my music effects them, and to be honest, words like that effect me just as much.”

Even though his fans are a factor to his inspiration, there is also his family. When we asked him who inspired him as an artist, he immediately noted his family. He continues to say, “they always have been everything and so supportive”. You also may notice the sound and feel of MitiS' work. Such as “Blu”, “In My Eyes”, and “Born” all have a very uplifted feel. It is a true labor to find a piece by MitiS that doesn't have his known uplifted feel.

“My tracks are always 100% written off of my mood,” he states, “I always try to keep a positive mind set, even though it's extremely frustrating sometimes when writing a piece.” We also asked who he plans on working with on his upcoming tracks. He told us that he has plans with a few artists in the near future, “but can't say quite yet! Can't give away too much, haha” he claims.

Also, if you are an active follower of MitiS' SoundCloud you would have noticed a preview of his remix of Fort Minor's “Where'd You Go”. This remix has a huge response to which MitiS was surprised. He tells us, “I initially made it so I can play it specifically for my live shows, but it had such a positive reaction that it's something I want to release.” This is a track that many of his fans are looking forward to in the near future, however some difficulties have pushed back the release of this track.

Finally, we asked MitiS if he had any advice for upcoming artists.

“Stay positive and work and work and work,” he says, “The easiest way to be is lazy, ‘this is good enough'. Always push your abilities.”

He also wanted to stress his thanks to you all here at EDM Sauce saying that he appreciates your constant support. Below, check out some of MitiS' latest releases and make sure to check out his Facebook!
