For the first time since iTunes opened its store has the US music industry finished with a decrease in digital music sales. Digital track sales fell 5.7% in 2013 from 1.34 billion units to 1.26 billion while digital album sales also fell .1% from 117.7 million to 117.6 million according to Nielsen SoundScan.
While SoundScan has yet to release the streaming numbers, we can only conclude that streaming services such as Spotify had something to do with this.
