Beats Music has acquired Topspin Media, a platform that lets artists sell music and merchandise directly to fans, in an effort to further unite the relationship between music listeners and the artist. Ian Rogers, former CEO of Topspin, recently left the company to become the CEO of Beats Music. He took to Beat's blog to state:
“The acquisition brings a team of talented people who have spent years working on building and fine-tuning the artist-to-fan connection into into the Beats Music experience. Topspin + Beats Music combines music discovery and direct relationships between artists and fans in a revolutionary way.”
Although specifics of the new features have yet to be revealed, it seems as though users will be able to interact with the artists in some way and, in return, the artist will be able to use this data and analytic information to help cater their to music fans. Artists will also be able to update their profile pages, where they will be able to sell products and merchandise.
