With the anticipation building for the release of Gareth Emery's second studio album, Drive, the UK-based producer/DJ decided to post a track from the album on his Soundcloud; his favorite one, to boot. And just like how he claimed last year that his new album would not include bangers, this new track- straying away from mighty drops and buzzy electro leads- shows that he meant what he said.
“Long Way Home” starts off with a plucky, trance-inspired melody — a signature preference of Emery's. Affectionate, chopped vocals and a backing arpeggiated synth come in later on as the track progresses, and the break brings forth rich strings and pads. Aside from Emery striving to not produce conventional dance music for Drive, this song in particular takes a sentimental approach due to it being inspired by Emery's cross-country road trip with his wife, as he talks about in the description of the song, and says it's not “a club track.” So make sure to check your jumping-and-fistpumping mentality at the door before clicking play, and get ready to vibe out to this easygoing song.
