Do you want to go to EDC for free, roundtrip flights, with a hotel room to stay in, pocket money to spend, a new Motorola X phone, collaborating with music industry talent, all while having Motorola officially documenting your artistic contributions? In keeping with the “You are the Headliner” mantra, Insomniac is teaming up with Motorola to provide music fans the opportunity to create art projects that will be incorporated into the Electric Daisy Carnival events. In previous years, this has been done solely through a DJ/Producer competition. This year, content creation is being extended to installation art, costume design, and stage design with a specific industry mentor provided for each entry.
The Installation Art Competition is being held for EDC New York. The application includes submitting detailed sketch concepts for your proposal. If chosen, you would be working with Ian Oosthuizen, Insomniac's official Art Curator.
EDC Las Vegas is holding both the Costume Design and Stage Design competitions. Jila Alaghamandan is the Entertainment Director for Insomniac. You could be collaborating with her for costume and Apparel design that you see dancers and performers wear during the event. Or if you are interested in stage design, Steve Lieberman, founder of SJ Lighting, will work with you on creating the next intriguing stage experience for festival-goers.
The deadline for the Installation Art program is April 21st. EDC Las Vegas entries are due on May 12th. There is a detailed list specifying the requirements of each contest, as well as mentor biographies and alumni entries, located in the Discovery Project website. Check out this recap video of the DJ contest winners from last year. If you are inspired to create art and want to express yourself through a unique platform, enter the contest. It's a prime way to network and collaborate with like minded people, and you could use it to impress your future best friends that you haven't even met yet!
