Toronto Council Members have voted 31-4 against a previous ban created last month by the Exhibition Place Board of Governors to stop all-ages electronic dance music parties from occurring at Exhibition Place and other facilities they control. Counselor Giorgio Mammoliti, who supported the ban, said “people in this city need to know by them running the show mean that children will die on city-owned lands or will overdose by drugs.” Counselor Gord Perks, who was against the ban, accused those in favor of the ban to have created a “deliberately manufactured moral panic” to cover up a “business competitive issue.” He added that “all the evidence I have seen says that holding (EDM events) at Exhibition Place is safer.” Irregardless of differing opinions from the City Council, the ban has been dropped and EDM events in Toronto will continue to be held in Exhibition Place.
