In rather strange news today, Insomniac Events announced that they are searching for this year's “King and Queen” of EDC Las Vegas. “The King and Queen will uphold the values of EDC and spread love & good vibes to everyone in attendance. They will be treated like royalty, and will also receive an all-access pass, special costumes, and a spot at the head of the EDC parade! The contest is open to any headliners over the age of 21, and couples are especially encouraged to enter.”
If you actually want to enter, Pasquale says that you need to make a video that tells them why you should be the next King of Queen and submit it here.
UPDATE: Pasquale Rotella took to his Facebook to say that the “King and Queen” has been cancelled.
Headliners, we hear you loud and clear! After reading through all of your comments, we’ve decided to end our search for a King and Queen of EDC Las Vegas. This whole idea was inspired by our excitement over the new Discovery Project Costume Design contest. We thought it would be cool to honor two Headliners and offer them the opportunity to wear the winning outfits. In hindsight, though, using words like “King” and “Queen” makes it sound like we wanted to create some kind of hierarchy where one person is more important than the next. This was not what we meant. We just saw a cool opportunity to provide amazing costumes to two people and make them feel ultra special, sort of how Above & Beyond invited a lucky fan onstage to have them “push the button.” We also understand that the title of the contest didn’t make it clear that the opportunity was open to everyone. In our eyes, a “couple” means any two people who are in love, regardless of gender or preferences!We'd like to revisit what we can do with the Discovery Project winner's costume designs. Also, we’re always open to suggestions on how we can create unique experiences for headliners.
