If you're looking for the new age of glitch hop and funk, look no further than Orphic. The California-based producer released the “Fractal Beach” EP on Adapted Records earlier this year and is looking to release more new music soon. He's been appropriately and brilliantly dubbed “Motown Glitch.”
Orphic, represented by his octopus image, combines the unique sounds of water drops and glitchy, animal sounds that remind you of underwater creatures. Meanwhile, electro and disco are common in his work, giving the tunes a soulful pick-up and lots of positive vibes and funk. Tracks like “Groove Train” are reminiscent of Daft Punk while “Molecular Connection” and “Fractal Beach” are feel-good glitch hop that remind us of Opiuo and Pretty Lights, taking on an electronic renaissance of vintage soul funk. Listen to “Fractal Beach” below and check it out on iTunes here or at Beatport or Addictech.
Orphic is the project of Joel Jakub, you can find him on Tour and all over the internet. He is playing this weekend at 333 in Los Angeles presented by the Good Vibe with Stickybuds and support from SPL and J*Labs (Facebook event page here).
