One thing comes to mind when I think of MitiS, melody. Years of classical piano training has made Joe Torre aka MitiS one of my all time favorite electronic music producers. I had the pleasure of seeing MitiS in the basement of Webster Hall in NYC, and it still ranks as one of the best shows I have ever seen. My personal preference in music bounces between dubstep and drum and bass, and MitiS composes both as beautifully as anyone I have ever heard.
The Latest MitiS EP Touch, relased on his own label BORN Records, is a prime example of blending chillstep and dnb together. Intricate drumwork, matched with elaborate melodies, makes Touch the latest EP to be on an infinite loop on my phone. Touch had me flexing my arrectores pilorum, causing what little hair I have left to stand. I love when an artist, like MitiS, can trigger such a frisson of excitement. The Opening Part 2 is an upbeat electro house track that sets the perfect tone for the EP. My only problem with “opening” track, is that it does not go on forever.
Touch, the title track of the EP that is available for free below, is a Synth filled drum and bass track. It is a track so powerful, once it ended I opened my eyes and forgot where I was. This track has the ability to take me on a journey deep into levels of my subconscious where I can get lost for hours.
Just when you think it can't get much better than that, MitiS lays down Shana J. Munson's voice on the Touch Feat. Shana J. Munson (Vocal Mix). Mitis is known for putting amazing female vocals on top of his melodies, for example Anna Yvette's work on Open Window. Munson's awe-inspiring voice takes this track to the next level.
Namaste, Alvida is a chilstep or lovestep track that showcases what an elite producer MitiS is. There are not enough synonyms for goosebumps to describe this song. Building melodies that explode into waves of sound that literaly brought tears to my eyes, yes I get that into it.
Life is the perfect follow up to Namaste, Alvida. Life is an ambient track with dubstep undertones that soothes the soul.
Breezes is a drum and bass track that concludes this epic EP. The chord progression and classic dnb rhythm gets me dancing up on my toes like Sugar Ray Leonard in his prime.
