Last Saturday we took a little road trip to Glasslands in Brookyln to watch Vanilla Ace, Lane 8, and Travmatic. If you read the pre-event review, we were expecting this line up to be filled with music goodness…and it was.
The Venue
Glasslands was in the creative bosom of Brooklyn. Walking into the venue you see the bar to your right, the dance floor straight ahead, and a small second floor to the left. The venue is cozy, but spacious enough not to feel claustrophobic. The fixtures were one of the most interesting characteristics of the club. The stage was set up in the back of the dance floor, visible from all parts of the club. The sound level was perfect. Not too low and not so loud that your eardrums felt like they are about to explode. It set just the right mood to hold the talent that came in that night for the U.S.Ace Tour.
The Music
We went into Glasslands expecting great house, deep house, and nu disco. What did we get? A pretty fantastic mix of everything we wanted. Travmatic did his thing on stage, delivering a good range of house and deep house to the audience. One of my favorite tracks in his set was his latest track “Double Take”. Which is a mix of deep house beats with voice clips from Missy Elliot's track ‘Lose Control’ (Feat Ciara & Fatman Scoop).
Lane 8 instantly grabbed everyone's attention when he got up on stage with his take on Nina Simone’s 1965 classic, Feeling Good. Solidifying a housey backrub feel to the night. Lane 8 didn’t get too much into the deep house. Kept it light and put a bunch of great tracks which kept the dance floor pretty packed.
Vanilla Ace set the bar high, playing deep house to nu disco throughout the night. Keeping the energy up and the audience dancing the night away. What I loved most about his set is how down to earth and passionate he was about his music. This feeling estabilished a prety solid connection between him and his audience.
Final Thoughts:
Overall it was a pretty fantastic night of music and dancing. All the artists are very talented and a must see. There are eight stops left in the U.S.Ace Tour, so if you’re in any of the remaining stops, go get your ticket now. If you live around Brookyln, check out Glasslands to see what they have coming up next.
