There are only good things to say about French producer Bobmo’s album New Dawn. Beginning with the dramatic intro, Breaking Waves, which flawlessly transitions into the infectiously groovy When I Look, to the banging 303s of Time Warp, Bobmo delivers all-star quality dance music that fits right in with the current taste of today’s EDMcentric environment.
Drawing from classic electronica influences, such as the Orb and Chemical Brothers, while retaining a modern tech house tinge, New Dawn makes for an incredibly listenable record. There’s a minimalism to the songwriting that sounds very reminiscent of Disclosure (even though Bobmo’s been around a lot longer than the UK duo) as well as an ongoing cosmic theme that flows through the entire record. Phenomenal pacing gives the feeling as though you’re apart of an interstellar journey and is done by distinguishing the latter half of the album apart from the first with the use of more electro/acid synths, prevalent in tracks like It Is Happening Again and Sonic Soul.
There are so many great things about this album. The overall creativity and attention to detail is through the roof and Bobmo absolutely deserves credit for giving us perhaps the most pleasant surprise of 2014.
