When I want to make money I’ll go to Vegas.
When I want to party I’ll go to Miami.
When I want love, I go to India.
– Axwell, at Goa Sunburn Festival
Since 2009, the EDM scene has taken Indias young, affluent and urban population by storm. With visits by legends like Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia and Armin Van Buuren, who have played their tracks at instantly sold out venues, the electronic vibe is spreading like wildfire. As it is, Goa hosts one of the biggest festivals on the planet every year; Sunburn. This year it drew more than 100,000 revellers from all over the globe. Since its inception, Sunburn has spread out to the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune. Upcoming acts by Hardwell, Axwell Ingrosso, W&W, Krewella and Cazzette have set the stage for something big. But recently we've been hearing rumors of something truly huge,
Tomorrowland India.
Devraj Sanval, the head of Universal Music India, has also been quoted on promising that Tomorrowland will happen in India. He said, “The live performances wing of Universal Music India will be bringing the feted Tomorrowland experience to India. India has emerged as a major EDM destination after Sunburn and it’s no surprise that there is international attention on the scene here. Universal is looking to expand its live music space in India and there can be nothing bigger than Tomorrowland to do it for them. It’ll be the biggest event in the country’s growing music calendar.” Further, EDM scene veteran and frequent spokesperson Deadmau5 has commented on the India EDM scene, and it seems like this rumor is one that is going to come true. For many Indians, this is a dream in itself – the often ignored, but massive population here, has long thirsted for western and European music.
