Take a look into the future with this invention by Görkem Şen from Instanbul. It's called the Yaybahar and it's an incredible acoustic instrument that produces eerie sounds that might remind you of electronic technology like a digital synthesizer. Low and behold, it is an electric-free creation.
According to the description, “the strings are transmitted via the coiled springs to the frame drums. These vibrations are turned into sound by the membranes which echo back and forth on the coiled springs. This results in an unique listening experience with an hypnotic surround sound.”
Görkem plays some strings on the Yaybahar towards the end that sound like electronic chords straight out of a program. Watch the video:
