Alesso Talks Heroes, Putting Emotion Into Electronic Music

Ever since Alesso broke onto the scene and captured our imagination, his unique style has left many in awe. Two years ago, he blew us away with his music video for the song “Years” (featuring Matthew Koma) which depicted his early career and the inspirational journey, including the low points and the liberating ones.

From his huge success with collaborating on “Under Control” (feat. Hurts) with Calvin Harris to his latest single “Heroes” (feat. Tove Lo), we are still captivated by ability to convey a powerful message in his production. Despite making deep songs that still rock the club, he hasn't lost the touch that created bangers like “Calling (Lose My Mind)” with Sebastian Ingrosso – as evidenced by his other latest single “Tear The Roof Up” – which sounds exactly as the name implies.

In a recent interview, Alesso opened up about “Heroes” and exploring his emotions.

“Honestly, I’m a pretty emotional person. Sometimes that’s what is missing in the electronic landscape — the real emotions. I have a euphoric sound, so when you combine that with an emotional message, it sticks with people.”

He also discussed how he came to work with fellow Swede Tove Lo, who is currently a hot commodity after the hit single “Habits (Stay High)”

“My team and I reached out to her to see if she’d be interested in a collaboration, and a couple months later, we began writing the lyrics that would go over these instrumentals. We discussed what it should be about — we knew it should be an emotional record — and she came back with this gorgeous top line.”

Alesso also talked about Lo's vision and how he could relate to her.

When Tove Lo and I first started working together, she’d tell me about how she wanted to be different, to stand out as an artist. And on some level, I think everyone goes through that. As a teenager, I was always wondering about who I was, what was my identity, did I secretly wish I was someone else. But as you [age], you realize that it’s not about being someone else.
