House Legend and ex-Swedish House Mafia artist Steve Angello spoke out about his dislike for big gigs such as Ultra and EDC in a recent interview with Mixmag.
The comment doesn't come as much of a suprise. Many questions have been raised over the pros and cons of rising interests in festivals as well as the increasing number of artists on them. Some say that big shows simply do not give that feeling of listening to an artist personally but rather like a radio.
Steve Angello believes shows need to become more personal. He believes the only way to do this is to go smaller as he said in the interview:
“I’m trying to push the artists on my label to become more club-orientated. Some of them think I’m evil! We have an artist right now that’s getting really big and is being offered lots of festivals and I said ‘Listen, your next tour is a club tour’ and he was like ‘Fuck that I don’t want to do a club tour’ and I was like ‘You’ve got to. We’ll do it small. 150 people, great soundsystem, no LEDs, just back to basics.’ Now he’s actually getting more excited about because it’s something different!”
