ZHU's identity has been quite the topic currently in the dance music scene. Rumors have been swirling that Skrillex is actually the person behind ZHU. However, those rumors have been put to rest with proof that Skrillex was busy playing his own show in Las Vegas the same night ZHU had a show in Brooklyn.
Although it feels that we may never find out who ZHU really is, the man himself gave his first ever studio interview with Lewis McKirdy of Triple J Australia admist the speculation. To say the least, the interview is incredibly interesting, revealing ZHU's initial motivation for anonymity, ‘The whole purpose was to let the music speak, so I think at some point people want to know who created it'. He goes on further, explaining why having a hidden identity has been so important to him,
“For me it's been a blessing because I can do things that are normal and be able to put those things into songs too, and being able to balance the two and really spend time creating a great record and creating a great show without worrying about anything.”
ZHU also explain how fun it's been for him to see the way people react backstage at events, comparing how they treat him when they think he's a nobody versus how they put on their best face when they know his true identity.
ZHU makes it very clear in his very first interview that he has a clear plan for the approach he's taking with everything from his music, marketing, future shows, and 2015 debut album. We didn't think it was possible, but this interview made us love the anonymous artist even more. Check it out below.
