Drum & bass producer Ownglow released his debut single on Pilot Recordings a week or so back, and the response has already been remarkable. His brand of melodic, undulating liquid has captured plenty of attention, and his future work is anticipated. We got in touch with the UK based, US born artist to find out his musical guilty pleasures.
1) Good Charlotte – “Waldorf Worldwide”
This tune was one of my anthems back in the days of elementary school… These guys and Blink 182 will forever be big inspirations. Oh pop punk, what would we do without you.
2) Kyary Pyamu Pyamu – “Yumeno Hajima Ring Ring”
I mean is there anything better than sugar injected pop music? I love the simplicity of the tune, and the guitar riff combined with the vocal harmonies make me melt.
3) The Network – “Teenagers From Mars”
I think originally The Network was a side project of Green Day, but besides that, I only need a few words to describe this tune. “Tony Hawk's American Wasteland”
4) Beach Boys – “409”
One of the major bands that was always played through my house, I grew up on a steady stream of The Beach Boys, The Eagles, Creed, Nirvana and more – cheers mum and dad for that. This tune resonated with me heavily, I love the bassline in it and the drum work.
5) A.G Cook – “Keri Baby” (ft. Hannah Diamond)
This is more of a recent tune, but it condenses everything I love and hate about pop into one song. The lyrics are fun, ironic and just nonsensical, but it's driven by a strong production and ridiculously catchy theme.
