You may think Beats by Dre's are the end all be all of Headphones, but they came in low on the list at #17 and were categorized as ‘Blown Out'. Another crowd favorite, Bose headphones, came in at #12 on the list and noted for their good quality and noise cancellation, but you may be paying premium prices just for the brand name. Apple earbuds were ranked at #11 for their new and improved quality at a middle tier level.
AKG at #6, Sony at #5, and Pioneer #4 were reviewed as sounding great, remaining reliably stellar headphone sets, and always having consistent quality. If you want top quality, super sonic sound then Time Magazine suggests you go with Klipsch at #3, Grado at #2, or Shure #1. They are noted for their outstanding performance and consistently amazing reviews from experts. However, you'll have to take the plunge with this purchase, as they are defininitely the pricier brands.
