Hey, knighted rock god… Let's collab?
When Diplo posted the selfie below with Led Zeppelin‘s Robert Plant three weeks ago in South America, he explained later that the caption “Collab coming soon” was just a joke. As many discussed the possibility, it was disregarded… until now.
In an interview this past week with KROQ's Kevin and Bean Show, Diplo talked about working with Madonna and being back in California for Coachella again (he was with Major Lazer in 2013 for both weekends).
“It's safer to be more anonymous.. celebrity culture in America is so insane,” Diplo confesses.
He also talked about working with Madonna as it being generally difficult to work with a historically famous artists but her path is different.
“Music culture is very young in a lot of ways… You go into the studio with someone who has great history. It's almost impossible to create something new. Rick Ruben did it great with Johnny Cash, it's hard to reinvent artists…”
But working with Plant came up in the conversation, and he addressed the possibility.
“I was on Tour with Robert Plant… we never did anything together, I just wrote that on my Instagram. I just put it… I thought it was so insane that I no one would take it seriously but now I am going to actively pursue him to do a collaboration.”
He also added, “Honestly I think he would be down. The reason I even approached him backstage is because he beat me for the GRAMMY Record of the Year four years ago and I told him that was my only chance to to get that award and you and Alison Krauss ruined it for me… but I still want to get a photo with you anyway.”
Diplo was nominated for Paper Planes by MIA.
“He didn’t really know who I was but he spent like a half hour talking to me about random (stuff), and I thought that was just so cool. His excitement about music in his eyes is still there and I love that. It gives me faith in my future, you know?”
