If you haven't been familiarized with the name Jason Ross yet you'll find during your recent searches that this guy is a young, determined and very talented artist who's been praised by the biggest names in music and is arguably one of the best newcomers of this year. He is well on his way to becoming the new face of the next generation of trance and his unique ability to blend two genres into one has allowed him to make a quite a name for himself.
Jason Ross was due to stop by Bassmnt in San Diego, a small venue known for housing some of the top notch artists in the business .This show was a bit nostalgic and sentimental for himself, and as for myself because it was only about a little over a year ago that I first met Jason at this same exact venue. I ran into him at a show (we were both just attendees) and we chatted about the state of trance music and his dreams to pursue production. At the time, he was producing tracks with other trance labels and was working furiously to perfect his music. He had even expressed that his dream was to produce under the mega label, Anjunabeats.
It's crazy to circle back a year later and see what happens when a passionate artist works their tail off to come to a point like this – from one moment watching the show to the next, headlining it.

This year has been the most crucial year for Jason as he has been guided under the wings of Above and Beyond to become the next Anjunabeats superstar, which ultimately pushed him into the spotlight very fast. Jason identifies himself as a perfectionist which could be the reason for his successful productions,
“As a producer, you're always thinking of your tracks like, oh could have been that kick better, or this or that”
I was a bit apprehensive to come to Bassmnt to see Jason play, it's a bit of a small venue that can get overcrowded fairly quickly, and the layout makes it hard to view the performer. Though once he started playing the sold-out crowded immediately embraced his music – you could tell most of the attendees were hard-core fans.
He started out with singles such as, “Cairo” and some new Ilan Bluestone singles that were perfect opening tracks that were full of energy and had the crowd craving for more. I was a little surprised to hear tracks from GTA, i'll have to admit it through me off a bit, but I didn't mind getting down to some trap.

The night continued with a steady flow of energetic and big room hits, also with dashes of Anjuna-sounding trance as well as hit singles such as, “Elements” and “Atlas”, an overall stellar performance. The crowd stuck to the dancefloor like glue the entire night.

It was refreshing to see how Jason has embraced his new found stardom and how he's taking his popularity to create bigger and better tracks,
“I think it's important to stay humble and stay focused and not letting anything get to your head. A lot of people, this happens overnight to them and their egos shoot up, when this happens it's like let's go party, but it's actually like let's stay focused.”
It's incredible to see eyewitness an artist's rise to stardom right in front of your eyes. Take notes from Jason, aspiring producers – you could be the next big thing too.
