The Indian Government has recently decided against hosting electronic dance music festivals on Goa beaches.
The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) believes that large scale EDM events cause an aftermath that makes hosting the festivals not worth the effort.
In a meeting held on May 26, GCZMA suggested three alternative sites in South Goa – Betul plateau, Cananguinim hill top, and Cabo de Rama cliff/hill top for the events to take place instead of on the beaches.
“Plastic waste was scattered all over,” GCZMA officials explained. “The four huge stages and platforms had its share of impacts. It was also noticed that long trailer trucks were moving all over the dune field thus creating further remobilization of dune sands.”
Although it may come as a shock to many that Sunburn and Supersonic may not be held in Goa this year, GCZMA's concerns are legitimate. However, with possible alternative locations the shows may still go on.
