Oski, one of the three producers who has just collaborated on a riotous bootleg of Backstreet Boy's “Everybody”, shares his musical guilty pleasures for us today. His slick and creative approach to production has scored him a legion of fans, and we look forward to hearing more from the young talent this year.
1) Justin Bieber – “Confident” ft. Chance The Rapper
Okay I'm going to cop a lot of flak for this. But the truth is, he's talented. He has a ridiculous voice and his music is pretty catchy. There's something about that beat, that wah-wah guitar sound hints at reggae but those trappy hi hats push it harder. There's an smooth eastern sounding instrument that comes in with a trill during the chorus. It's a great mix of different styles and instruments. And God damn… When Chance's verse hits I feel faint…
2) La Bouche – “Be My Lover”
‘Nuff said.
3) Will.I.Am – “Feelin' Myself” ft. Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, French Montana
Say what you want about Miley Cyrus, and Will.I.Am; there's no denying that they know exactly how to play the game. And they've gotta be doing something right. This track hits me harder than a truck full of bricks because for some reason every time Miley comes in with that verse I feel some type of way.
4) The Supermen Lovers (ft. Mani Hoffman) – “Starlight”
That early 2000's disco house sound resonates with me deeply. Probably because (apart from 90's rave) it's one of the earliest forms of electronic music that I actually enjoyed as a kid. So. damn. catchy.
5) Sean Paul – “We Be Burning”
I'm not too sure whether Sean Paul's music is generally considered as a guilty pleasure among the general population. But damn it goes hard. The dude brought that new age dancehall sound into the spotlight, mixed it with a more poppy sound and the result was awesome: Danceable beats with catchy lyrics that are impossible to understand.
