No denying that trance music is on the upswing, especially with the announcement of Insomniac‘s Dreamstate trance only massive that's sure to be another ongoing event by the festival gurus. While most of this growth is undeniably due to the sheer level of passion and loyalty that trance fans have for their beloved scene (seriously, trance fans live for the music), but also due to remarkably talented artists who have begun to elevate the genre into much needed new territory.
Los Angeles based producer, Johnny Yono, has been in the front lines of this new sound for the past 5 years, crafting tracks with the melody driven, symphonic excellence that trance is known for with the modern upgrades of giant electro infused basslines and rhythms that are a perfect fit for todays larger than life stage standards. Riding the wave of acclaim from his first EP released on Perfecto Fluoro, Poison Whispers, Johnny's latest project with the UK's lovely Bo Bruce, remixing her 2013 hit “These Hands I Hold” is without a doubt the best vocal track he's made so far. This isn't simply due to the tremendous amount of conviction and heartbreaking emotion from Bo Bruce and her lyrics, but the boulder sized beat is Yono at his best. Little touches like the fill leading into the breakdown, the elevating chords, are the signs of a top notch music producer.
Out of all the remixes of “These Hands I Hold”, Yono's version shines the brightest. The dynamic instrumentals bring out the vocals better than even Bo Bruce herself probably could have ever realized and its quite a treat for your ears. Any fan of EDM or electronica can and probably will dig this track and if you ever see Johnny Yono coming to your town, DON'T SLEEP.
