As ‘Straight Outta Compton' has become the highest grossing music biopic in history, ‘We Are Your Friends' has completely tanked.
Zac Efron's passion project about an aspiring DJ pulled in just $1.8 million in its opening weekend across America. This makes it the fourth worst opening weekend in history for a film screening at over 2000 cinemas. The only movies to do as bad as ‘We Are Your Friends' was 2012's Oogieloves In The BIG Baloon Adventure, 2008's Delgo and last year's Saw 10th Anniversary.
“This was a passion project for Zac Efron, and we believe in him,” Warner Bros Executive Vice President for Domestic Distribution Jeff Goldstein told The Hollywood Reporter. “Yes, the result was disappointing, but this was a small film.”
So how do the reviewers feel about it? ‘We Are Your Friends' is getting demolished on Rotten Tomatoes with a review aggregator of 43%.
