In a recent interview piece from Wonderland in Rave, well-known ghost producer Maarten Vorwerk gave one of his most candid interviews yet. Vorwerk is responsible for making a celebratory, popular sound in his festival-ready bangers. He has produced tracks for and with many of the best: Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Usher, Major Lazer, Tiësto, and many others.
Vorwerk dives into plenty of topics like his production style, tracks he's made for other producers, and how he handles his place in the scene.
When asked about whether he enjoys “ghosting,” he said:
“I love it if a track becomes a hit. It’s great to see and hear all the positive reactions and to hear your tracks on the radio. My name is still in the credits though, so that’s enough recognition for me. I do appreciate it when a DJ mentions me a co-producer in interviews or whatever.”
He added that the career itself can be quite exhausting and there's an element of pressure that makes it challenging. Overall, he appreciate his place in electronic music.
“I love being in the studio and creating stuff. That is who I am and what I do. For me that’s the best way to present yourself.”
This year, Vorwerk is making a bit of a campaign for DJ Mag. But he insists that it's not about the amount of the prize for being on the list.
“Well I can tell you that I don’t charge as much as some of the Top DJ’s are getting for a gig. Production time depends on a lot of things. That’s really hard to say.
If I have a good amount of inspiration you could say one week to finish a full track on average.”
When asked about his favorite DJ's, he gave some interesting answers as well by listing his favorite producers instead – since he doesn't listen to DJ sets.
“Well I don’t really listen to DJ sets. So it would be better to ask me for the three best (dance) producers. In that case I would say, Adam Richard Wiles, Thomas Wesley Pentz (Diplo) and Giorgio Tuinfort.”
