In recent times, the EDM community has received a lot of backlash from the media as concerned parents, news anchors, and society express their doubts about the validity and continuity of the music scene. These concern are from the negative aspects of the community such as injury and death from recreational drug use during shows. Although every incident is tragic, the EDM community has so much more to offer than drugs, risky behavior, and injury. The scene as a whole is obviously about peace, love, unity and respect, but the cause goes even deeper.
One of the biggest festival production companies, Insomniac, showed its love to the community by donating $105,000 raised through Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas 2015 ticket sales to three local nonprofit organizations.
This was in honor of the company’s commitment to giving back to the communities where their festivals are produced. This year’s recipients include the Injured Police Officers Fund, Emergency Medicine Resident Research Fund, and HELP of Southern Nevada’s Shannon West Homeless Youth Center.
Representative from the Injured Police Officers Fund, Emergency Medicine Resident Research fund, and HELP came together at Downtown Container Park, where CEO and founder of Insomniac, Pasquale Rotella, presented each representative with a donation of $35,000. Injured Police Officers Fund’s Eric Solano and Sergeant Alan Davidson of Nevada Highway Patrol, Dr. Dale Carrison of the University Of Nevada School Of Emergency Medicine and Terrie D’Antonio of HELP of Southern Nevada accepted the gift on behalf of their organizations.
This just goes to show that the EDM scene is much more than what it is perceived to be in the media. It is really about giving back to others and respecting the environment where festivals are held. Moreover, the donation shows how those in power of the EDM scene genuinely care about others and the communities they are impacting.
