As SoundCloud continues to push forward into a new era of policies and evolution, the next phase took this week by attacking the app. SoundCloud released “SoundCloud Pulse: For Creators,” which is a bit more sophisticated than the SoundCloud app that currently exists.
Currently only available for Android users, the Pulse app is designed to help artists and creators use the site while on the go. It allows public or private track streaming, the ability to view statistics, and reply to comments. But as some reviews suggested, there is no private messaging feature yet – one of many missing features from the original app. Pulse is currently only available for Android.
SoundCloud made improvements to the original app over the summer and has made progress from a year ago, when the app was notorious for crashing.
Brendan Codey, SoundCloud's senior marketing manager, explained why the company decided to make a new app.
“This is something we discussed a lot internally,” Codey said. “We want to meet the need of creators and listeners as best we can and believe having two apps is the best way to do that. It’s a challenge to keep an app with many features simple to use and easy to maintain. Having two apps allows us to iterate more often in each, without risking disturbing what’s most important in each app.”
