Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
MoogFest has released their latest lineup announcement and it’s impressive to say the least. For those of you unfamiliar, Moogfest, is an incredibly progressive and interactive music, art, and technology festival inspired by synth inventor and electronic music innovator Robert Moog. The icing on the cake for this fest is that in addition to music performances, there will be artist discussions, art installations, an experimental film festival, workshops, demos, exhibits, masterclasses, and an electronic pop-up marketplace displaying cutting-edge electronic instruments and synths. For the past couple of years this extraordinary event has taken place in neighboring venues in downtown Asheville, but currently it has been re-located to intimate venues throughout the city in Durham, North Carolina. The four day fest will take place from May 19-22, 2016 (Thursday to Sunday). Below you can check out the full lineup poster.
Among the headliners are Odesza, Gary Numan, GZA, Laurie Anderson, Explosions in the Sky, Blood Orange, sunn O))), Oneohtrix Point Never, The Orb, Suzanne Ciani, Reggie Watts, and Sun Ra Arkestra. In addition to the initial lineup of electronic pioneers, MoogFest has announced the following new performers:
– Grimes, Miike Snow, IBM’s DJ Watson, Skepta, DJ Black Madonna, Health, Eyes Low, Erika Anderson, and tAz Arnold.
Side-note: The tradition continues!! In celebration of Robert Moog’s innovations in sonic engineering, MoogFest has announced the 5th Annual Circuit Bending Contest. The contest challenges entrants to transform a battery powered device and circuit bend it to create an instrument capable of creating new and unique sounds for a total budget of $70 or less.
