After inking a deal with Sony Music, SoundCloud has finally secured all three major labels in the website's journey towards a monetized platform.
Now with just a few weeks until its launch, SoundCloud has revealed new details on how it will compete with Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music. In doing so, SoundCloud will hand over a level of authority to the major labels, allowing them to decide which songs will be made available for free and which songs will be allowed on the paid subscription service.
SoundCloud will also allow users to upload their remixes as well as mixes on both the free and paid tiers. Moving forward though, SoundCloud will screen each remix and mix for licensed samples and if any are detected, earnings from the song will be split amongst the respective copyright holders.
Stay tuned for more details about SoundCloud's new paid subscription model.
