When one thinks about trance music, there are a few names that stick out as the main proponents of the genre over the last twenty years or so. Names like Paul Van Dyk, Aly & Fila, and Paul Oakenfold come to mind. These are acts who have defined the genre and have helped forward it's progression through their production and live contributions over the last two decades. Another act who belongs at the top of that list is Irish producer John O' Callaghan who has been mesmerizing audiences since 2003 with his powerful melodies and extremely emotional vocals.
This week, the trance community was blessed with a new single from the legendary producer. The song will be released on Subculture, Callaghan's sublabel on the larger recording company Black Hole Recordings, a massive staple of the trance community. For the track entitled “Lies Cost Nothing”, Callaghan teamed up with vocalist Clare Stagg who has been a staple single in the trance community working with producers such as Solarstone and Mark Sherry in the past.
The song boasts very personal lyrics that tell a story of a brutal break up between lovers. Lyrics like “don't drag me into your dance in the dark” and “I'm not your sky, I'm not your star” tear at the heart strings of any listener. We have all been through a break up and this song is a powerful trip through emotions we can all relate to. The kick is strong and the melodies match the vocals perfectly creating a fantastic track overall, nothing that we don't expect from Mr. Callaghan. We look forward to hearing this track in upcoming sets by Callaghan and can't wait to be overtaken with emotion while we dance to it. Check out the track below and let us know what you think!
