In a very short blog post, Rhapsody has announced that Napster is making its come back.
Napster which was originally introduced on June 1, 1999 by John Fanning, Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker is going to be making its comeback. The peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing service ran into legal difficulties and was eventually acquired by Roxio. In its second incarnation Napster became an online store and was later acquired by Best Buy and Rhapsody on December 1, 2011. While not much has been said about Napster, Rhapsody posted today “No changes to your playlists, favorites, albums, and artists. Same music. Same service. Same price. 100% the music you love. Stay tuned!”
With Napster going up against Apple Music, Spotify and TIDAL, we'll see if Napster can make a dent in the market.
