A Nigerian DJ just smashed the previous record of the longest DJ set.
Earlier this month, DJ Obi completed a 240-hour (10 days) marathon set on the decks at Lagos cafe. The previous record of a 200-hour set from accomplished by a Polish DJ called Norbert Selmaj in November 2014.
The record has yet to be ratified by the Guinness World Records team, but DJ Obi followed the rules for the DJing record this time around. DJ Obi was allowed a 5-minute break every hour and always had to have someone dancing at all times. The DJ also could not repeat a song within four hours of playing.
DJ Obi said that “people came to support the love. Schools came by with their students – mind you, this is in Nigeria, where people think partying is for irresponsible people.”
DJ Obi fought sleep deprivation by taking “disco naps” or closing his eyes for five seconds. He admitted that he even started to hallucinate during his set.
