After his momentous revival of one of the country's most influential music news sources – Billboard Dance – Senior Editor Matt Medved is dishing out his thoughts on dance music in the world today and how it has progressed over the years. In an interview with Billboard Radio China, he reveals his long-standing history within music, discussing his early days as a DJ to his current involvement with one of the top music news outlets. All in all, Matt Medved has an unparalleled grasp on the industry.
“Dance music is in such an amazing place in how it's crossing over now,” says Medved. “If you look at the No. 1 song in the country, it's “Closer” by The Chainsmokers. If you look at the top 10, there's a ton of dance songs. You've got Major Lazer and Calvin Harris. It's a very exciting time, because it wasn't always like that.”
Medved's biggest point of discussion, however, is the future of music in Asia – specifically the burgeoning markets in China and India – and how he hopes to make Billboard one of the leading music resources in those countries, and how he aspires to make Billboard Dance a global brand.
