We know Ookay for his most recent single, “Thief.” Yes, we're talking about the trap producer who recently had his Soundcloud deactivated. But the good news is this trap DJ & twitter persona is literally “Back Again” with a brand new EP, The Cocoon. For those that are used to hard hitting bass & experimental remixes, this new EP is a bit of a deviant from what we’ve come to expect.
Think futuristic bass that melts into melodic house. The first track “Back Again” pays tribute to the late Big Makk, who died in a car crash in August. It’s also the most vocal intensive track, and one could even argue there may be a hint of influence from his buddy, Slushii in there. “Long Time” and “New Jack Swing” are the heaviest house tracks on the EP, while “Sure” starts off with a harp-like sound and builds into a beautifully crafted story about a relationship. And to finish it off strong “Bring It Back” is a bouncy track with heavy synth sounds that we’ve come to know and expect from Ookay.
All-in-all, Ookay has given us a solid set of tracks that everyone can get in to. And so it seems, our beloved trap star is really experimenting with his sound. Perhaps he’ll sprout into a beautiful butterfly?
Shoutout to everyone showing so much love for this ❤️ #CocoonEP – https://t.co/4xPX62hPQy pic.twitter.com/srPYrBt5jB
