Zeds Dead. New 15-song album, Northern Lights. Yep, I’m excited too. Although these guys have been on the EDM scene for quite some time, this is their debut full-length album. I came to love them for their loud, bass-intensive festival sets. But most recently, I’ve become intrigued by their ability to flow from genre-to-genre. When they release a new track, I always anticipate there will be at least one element I’m really vibing with. So when Northern Lights hit, I got excited.
One of the best things about this album is – it’s got a little bit of everything we love about these guys, and also some experimentation, which they typically always master. The balance of this record is impeccable. Not to mention their collaboration game is on point.
The album opens on “Stardust,” a mysterious dance track with a harmonious vocal contribution from Twin Shadow. It’s one of two collabs (the other is “Loneliness”) with George Lewis Jr., better known as Twin Shadow. And of course you’ll find other previously released singles, “Blame,” ft. Diplo & Elliphant and “Frontlines” with NGHTMRE.
Additionally, other tracks include features from Atlas, Pusha T, Jadakiss and even Weezer front man, Rivers Cuomo on “Too Young.” There’s even more than listed above. The collaborations alone are a reason why you should give Northern Lights a listen.
This is one of those albums you really can enjoy from start to finish. You’re going to get a taste of everything – futuristic bass, hard-hitting dubstep, euphonious vocals, methodical rap verses, vibrant dance beats…the list goes on. My advice? Grab a beer (or your drink of choice), hit ‘play’ and take it all the way from beginning to end. It won’t disappoint. You’ll find a few you’ll want to play on repeat (mine are “DNA,” “Already Done” and “Frontlines.”), as well as a few you didn’t think you’d be into but weirdly enough, you are.

And some even better News? Zeds Dead is currently on a Northern Lights tour through the rest of the year. So once you’ve found your faves, pick a city, find a festival and dance your a** off. You know it’ll be worth it.
