It’s been another busy week in the headlines for Deadmau5. Between announcing a brand new album titled ‘W:/2016ALBUM/’, picking fights with Marshmello, to now receiving the honors of Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune with new single ‘4ware’, it’s safe to say that it’s officially Deadmau5 album season.
The Essential New Tune was aired on BBC Radio 1 by the UK tastemaker Pete Tong, which was followed by positive words from the radio host, linking it’s sound to Deadmau5’s decade old breakthrough hit ‘Faxing Berlin’. “(4Ware) takes me right back to kind of ‘Faxing Berlin’ styled Deadmau5, so it’s right up my alley” Tong goes on to say.
Joel joined Pete Tong on air to discuss the “silly album title” (as referred to by Pete Tong) and the sound of the new record with Joel going on to say “there’s an 80’s sci-fi fantasy film vibe to some of the melodies. I think that’s due to my purchase of a Prophet 10. Any 80’s fantasy movie was a Prophet 10. When you’re drawn to this instrument, you’re immediately drawn to that kind of vibe.”
Towards the end of the interview Tong mentions an upcoming “very special” online event that will coincide the album release on December 2nd. In true fashion, Deadmau5 also dropped a hint on tour details via his Instagram, with the below tour name.
The album is his first in two and a half years and we’re beyond excited to see what he has lined up for the December 2nd release. Listen to the track and interview with Pete Tong below.
