The past couple of years have been prosperous for electronic music to say the least. Calvin Harris had been releasing top 40 hits for half a decade, but 2016 was an even bigger year for other electronic artists as well — whether veterans or rookies to the mainstream charts.
The Chainsmokers ruled the year, claiming two top 10 songs, among the pop superstars Justin Bieber, Drake and Rihanna. The duo's song of the summer “Closer” with Halsey scored the number 7 spot and “Don't Let Me Down” featuring Daya landed at number 9. Not too far behind these two hits was “This Is What You Came For” from Calvin Harris, as well as the Seeb remix of “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” by Mike Posner, both of which ranked in the top 20.
DJ Snake and Major Lazer's respective collaborations with Justin Bieber also landed high on the list, but not without some surprises here and there. The list appears to fluctuate, though, allowing for fans to vote for their favorites so check out the full list here before Billboard finalizes it for the year.
