Beautifully mysterious and somewhat dark “Akira” delivers a new version of classic trap. First, Eklia, the young DJ from Vancouver is not new to this genre of music but is changing things up. KRANE has also been around the scene hailing from the Oakland area has hinted to big changes they year for him. Both Ekali and KRANE express throughout their twitter how 2017 is going to feature new hard hitting music. KRANE also jokes “I'm not sure I know what trap music is”.”Akira” delivers and surpassed those promises from both artist.

Feels SO good to be putting out music again. More on the way. Heavy music, chill music, hour long mixes… 2017 is going to be great.

The beginning is misleading, subtle and gentle. However, this song rapidly moves into heavy yet chill beats as Ekali mentions. Halfway through it becomes light and airy wit what sounds like Japanese flute samples. Maybe this a nod to the name which actually means “bright” “intelligent” or “clear” in Japanese. Three words that would round out this new sound. If this is a sample of what's to come from Ekali and KRANE-this more aggressive sounding trap music is going to be turned on its head. Hopefully, this is the start of something much bigger and they continue to work together to create amazing music.
Finally, take a listen below of this new, refreshing tune:
