Gorillaz officially announced that they have finished compiling their new album and are conducting live rehearsals for tour. The statement wasn’t unexpected, due to numerous hints from co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. Since early 2016, Hewlett posted multiple videos on Instagram.
“I'm in the very early days on a new Gorillaz record. So far, it's really fast, and it's got quite a lot of energy.” Said Albarn in an interview with Rolling Stone in Oct 2015.
If their new album is anything like the enigmatic first single “Hallelujah Money,” it will be well worth the wait. It is a mystery as to whether the politically-driven tone will carry throughout the entirety of the album. Ben Clementine, featured on this track, released an album in 2015 that parallels the strong tone in his feature on this track.
According to long-time fan Jack Winstanley via Twitter, Damon Albarn said the album is finished and they are beginning to prepare for a tour,
