Heavy is the word that immediately comes to mind when putting on the Shade's new EP, Night The Dreadless Angel. This new and experimental project comes from bass maestros Alix Perez and Eprom, released on Alix's own 1985 Music label. Shades combines elements of jungle, glitch hop, and breakbeats to create dark, filthy sounds that are as futuristic and hard as you'll find in todays alternative bass landscape. There's a brilliant balance of density and space, with a minimalistic approach that allows each massive kick to be fully felt and each distorted, angry lead to expressed. On top of the sheer scale and intensity, each tune has an undeniable grooviness to them making them just as danceable as they are headbanger worthy. Seriously cool stuff here and I'd encourage anyone who enjoys it to check out Alix and the rest of the 1985 Music crew's work as well.
