During Verizon's long drawn out decision to purchase Yahoo, Yahoo underwent massive security breaches and lost a lot of value to its bottom line dollar.
As Yahoo struggled to keep its good name after the security breaches, Verizon decided enough was enough and has apparently changed both Yahoo and AOL's name to Oath.
The name change was then confirmed by AOL CEO Tim Armstrong that tweeted “Billion+ Consumers, 20+ Brands, Unstoppable Team. #TakeTheOath. Summer 2017.”

Recode has also added that the current Yahoo CEO, Marissa Mayer, will not continue with the newly reformed company.
All Yahoo entities and AOL will now be known as Oath.
