The Billboard Music Awards took place tonight and with any good award show, there were hundreds of artists in attendance for their respected genres. This year, The Chainsmokers saw the most nominations of any electronic act. Still, when the show ended we were surprised by how little love the genre as a whole got this year. Ultimately the show was dominated by hip hop and Drake. His 13 wins beat the record of 12 set by Adele in years prior.
The Chainsmokers Shine
While The Chainsmokers saw over a dozen nominations (in some categories they received two nominations), yet they only took home four awards total. The four winning categories were:
– Top Electronic Artist
– Top Hot 100 Song (For ‘Closer' w/ Halsey)
– Top Collaboration (For ‘Closer' w/ Halsey)
– Top Dance Song (For ‘Closer' w/ Halsey)
– Top Dance Artist
Check out the performance of ‘Young' by the guys below! So far it has gotten some mixed reviews (one reason being for featuring an incredibly ominous background for some reason).
EDM As A Whole Gets Very Little Love On The Night/h2>
A big surprise was the winner of the best dance/electronic album. Which was actually Lindsey Sterling. The fantastically original violinist took down Grammy winner Flume, Kygo and The Chainsmokers for the honor.
In total outside of categories that were more than just strictly electronic artists nominated, only two awards went to EDM acts. Both of which were The Chainsmokers. Congratulations to all the award winners. Especially Drake who absolutely cleaned up. Even Alex and Drew had to give him props on the night.
I'm done @Drake just finished it. That was the sickest performances ever in the fountain are you fucking kidding me. RIP
