Hey dance music fans! Welcome to another edition of our Artist of the Week series where we feature the hottest up and coming artists from around the globe! This week we are featuring a young 19 year old producer / artist / DJ, Brian Johnson, going by the stage name of TLUXX! The New Mexico based artist has been making waves recently, sharing the stage with the biggest artists in the world like Zomboy, Headhunterz, CandyLand, Mako, Party Favor and many more.
TLUXX got his kickstart into production in a very unorthodox manner. He had aspirations of becoming a Major League Baseball Player, but encountered some heavy health issues at the age of 12 that allowed him to focus his energy, and new found passion, into DJ'ing and producing. This new glory brought him a successful win at New Mexico's Sun City Music Festival DJ Contest, a residency in Albuquerque's Lotus and Gravity clubs and gigs across the states.
Engaging in more than just production, TLUXX found a higher calling in his passion and currently runs a charity he calls “Play it Forward” that raises money for local homeless teen shelters, a cause that he continues to support every single day.
As far as his production style, TLUXX goes against the grain that many young producers usually follow. He doesn't believe in producing genres, but views production more as a process than a desired outcome. He focuses on the energy of the track rather than the classification, and it surely shows in his productions.
We got a chance to talk a bit with TLUXX about his current life in production, including a new music video that has just been released, take a view below!
“”I've been very busy finishing a Music Production program in Los angeles at icon music production school. between classes, homework, business meetings and releasing singles, I've been super busy.”
He went on to explain the experience in producing his first music video:
“Filming round and round was amazing. I was a bit nervous at first but the crew from hustle cake productions were very welcoming and friendly. we filmed it at the famous merry-go-round at griffith park. SUPPOSEDLY the merry-go-round was haunted. paige lorentzen was the model on the video and she did an amazing Job. it was just a great overall experience.”
Lastly, we wanted to dig into TLUXX's creative process and try to get a feel for what's coming next for this young producer:
“I usually don't have anything in particular that inspires me. I sit down and just start writing, and from there, the music takes a life of its own. As far as what's next for my career, your guess is as good as mine. I do have goals of performing at some of the larger music festivals, continuing to make music, and taking life as it comes at me!”
