“From Then On,” Paul Van Dyk's first album since the tragic fall he endured last year is set to come out this month. To kick-off the release Paul brought a new show concept to two cities, NYC and San Bernardino, CA.
We were lucky enough to be able to experience ‘AEON by Paul Van Dyk' first hand last Saturday, at the Playstation Theater right in Time Square. The Facebook event previously mentioned the end time being midnight, so we got there early. Leroy Moreno was warming things up with deep vibes, and teasing us with a few bangers that really got the crowd into a groove. By 11pm, I started getting concerned Paul hadn't come on yet, but the crowd was still filling in.
Around 11:30pm the crowd is ready to rock, and Paul takes the stage. The sound system kicks up a notch, the light switch flips on and AEON is ready to take off (and it looked that way too). Paul was accompanied by two keyboardists on both sides of him, each of which were in futuristic outfits with big digital screens in front of them. From the looks of it, this was a spaceship into trance future, with the OG of trance himself at the controls.
Paul dropped songs from his new album in the classic fashion he always does, and he definitely did not disappoint. I noticed as I looked around his crowd was diverse, and different from what I'm used to at NYC electronic shows. From millennials to middle aged parents, everyone was there for a classic PVD set, all on the same wavelength regardless of age, color, sex. His music puts you at ease, and this is no different with tracks from “From Then On.”
I look forward to next time Paul's in town, NYC will always have love for him. Until next time.
